Food allergies and more significant health problems seem to be caused by new eating habits; such as take away and processed foods. Today they are the norm, whereas fresh homemade meals were more common in the past. Such junk food is now unfortunately part of our everyday lives and it is important for people to note that it contains harmful chemicals and toxic additives. Fortunately, in most countries manufacturers are required by law to list these components on their labels.
In Europe, chemicals which can be used as food additives are listed as E-number codes (e.g. E 216).
The “MyAdditives” website was launched to create an awareness on food additive toxicity amongst consumers and help checking food labels to know whether or not a particular product contains harmful substances.
After the huge success of the website, now is your chance to get the “MyAdditives” application and find out from your mobile phone if the food you are buying is safe. Check food labels (additive names and E-number codes) as you shop and get the list of possible side effects!
Let’s see the advantages of the application over browsing the website:
First, you have more options available to search the list of additives. You can search by code with the calculator (e.g. 963), by name in the search box (e.g. aspartame), by browsing the list of additives by Dietary Restrictions, by Additive Category, by Food Category, by Side Effects or by Toxicity.
Second, you can always access the information regardless of your mobile being connected to the Internet. This is useful when you are shopping in the supermarket and the network coverage is weak.
